Talent managers are required when a person now has so much work that they don't know what to do with it, or for ones that have no work, and desperately need someone to help them drum some up. Talent managers are either the secret behind your success, or they could lead to your ultimate downfall.
Good talent managers don't let their clients be left out in the cold. They are supposed to look out for you, book tours, negotiate terms favorable for the client, and generally keep it all rolling for you as you are movie star-ring it up with no worries. The best talent managers are well paid for executing these tasks effectively.
More often than not, at least in the beginning of the rising superstar's career, it is a family member, or a close friend who ends up taking up the very necessary, but glamorless jobs like talent managers and only stay for the long haul despite being driven to the point of wanting to strangle their once-friend numerous times because of their loyalty, and because eventually, if the artist, or actress ends up making it big, talent managers get paid!
